Alison is a textile designer specialising in beautifully textured and unusual hand woven fabrics. Working with clients on an individual basis she designs and hand weaves ranges including wall panels, rugs, cushions, throws, window hangings and fabrics for apparel. Hallmarks of her work are unusual colour combinations and original, very tactile textures which combine the traditional with the contemporary.
"I love using traditional, simple weaves such as twill and plain weave, with natural yarns, wool, cotton and silk, for example, but giving them impact by combining them with unexpected techniques and colours."
Recent inspirations have been grasses growing along her local canal, and has been well received by interior designers and garden designers looking for fabrics for garden rooms, and a motif from Haddon Hall Chapel which have been exhibited across the UK and Europe. She is very considerate about her choice of fibre, ensuring the sustainability of all her work from design to end of life of the fabric, has written a "Sustainability Manifesto" and "Environmental Policy" for her business and has gained the Peak District Environmental Quality Mark.
Alison is also available for freelance work.
